Camp Glow 2018
The Family Protection Legal Aid Centre (FPLAC) spoke at CAMP GLOW 2018 on an invitation by the Talitha Project. Talita Project organized a 4 day camp focusing on young girls’ empowerment. Thirty five (35) girls participated and learned about First Aid, Sexual and Reproductive Health Rights, Self Esteem and the Family Protection Act including their rights and responsibilities under the legislation that governs domestic violence issues.
Vika ‘Akauola represented the FPLAC and shared about the Centre’s mandate and its core activities – consultations, legal response, referral network or pathway and the public awareness and education activities. This camp as said by the Executive Director of the Talita Project, Ms. Vanesa Heleta, is part of their prevention program and they believe that empowering young girls should begin when they are very young. She was pleased to welcome the staff of the Centre and extended her gratitude for the opportunity given to the young girls to under the FPA 2013.
The FPLAC was grateful for the opportunity and looks forward to more collaboration and coordination with the Talitha Project in empowering women and young girls.
